DORMER ATTIC EXTENSION
This is a popular way to achieve the maximum amount of floor space and headroom in an attic. It means building a vertical wall and horizontal ceiling so that the extension juts out from either the back, front or side of the roof slope, depending on the design of your property.
L-SHAPED DORMER
L-shaped dormers are a popular way to maximise permitted loft space (40m³ for terraces, 50m³ for semis), especially in Victorian and Edwardian homes with rear additions. They can create a spacious master suite or two luxury bedrooms with a shared shower room, with the rear section often called a “pod``
HIP TO GABLE LOFT CONVERSION
This is suitable for detached, semis, end terraces or bungalows with ‘hipped’ roofs and increases the internal attic space. It involves making a big change to a roof by altering a sloping end to a vertical end to create more room indoors.
MANSARD LOFT EXTENSION
This is generally the most expensive type of roof conversion, because it involves making a significant change to a roof to maximise the loft space. It involves the creation of two roof slopes, including one that tilts inwards at 70 degrees.
ROOFLINE ATTIC CONVERSION
This is a great value-for-money option that doesn’t generally need planning permission. It involves installing Velux windows to let the light in, without making any changes to the shape of the roof.
